Craniosacral is a light touch therapy that works with the origin of symptoms, whether physical, psychological, emotional or spiritual. The aim of the therapy is to create a safe space for the system to gently shift traumas, assist in processing unresolved experiences and rebalance the inherent ability we all have for self-healing.
Craniosacral therapy is based on the work of Osteopath, Dr William Garner Sutherland, who developed a new approach to osteopathy known as the ‘Cranial Concept’ in the early 1900s. He discovered that the skull’s bones and the fluids which surround the brain have intrinsic movements. Their natural pulsations reveal different rhythms and energy processes which influence the whole body and our health.
These rhythms can become restricted or inhibited in case of physical or emotional traumas, old or new injuries, stresses or strains. These blockages in the body natural rhythmic movement can build up in our body and contribure to making us feel unwell and create different symptoms.
Using a light touch on the body, the therapist can detect these restrictions and help to release them so that the body can begin to heal itself, to restore health and balance.
As the treatment is so gentle, it is suitable for all ages - Newborn, Children, Teens, Adult, Mums to be and New Mums. It can be used for specific conditions or equally as a maintenance treatment to help keep the system oriented towards health.
Craniosacral therapy can be helpful for almost any conditions.
People may come for Craniosacral Therapy because they have acute physical problems like headaches or bad backs or long-standing problems, both physical and emotional. Others come for ongoing support in their busy lives and for help to meet life’s challenges. Individuals also seek treatment on a regular basis to feel a deep sense of relaxation and to increase energy and balance in their systems.
Because it is so gentle and non-invasive, Craniosacral Therapy is suitable for everyone from newborns to the elderly.
There are no set number of sessions. Sometimes people report relief from their symptoms after one or two treatments. For long-standing problems or chronic conditions further sessions may be needed, and I may recommend weekly treatments over a longer period, the course of which would be reviewed regularly between us.
Barbara has been a Beauty and Complementary Therapist since 2006 when, while retraining to change her career, she discovered a true passion for massage and bodywork.
Since then, she’s worked as a massage therapist, constantly developing her skills. She trained in Sport massage, pregnancy massage, lymphatic massage and more, with a very in-depth understanding of the body anatomy and physiology.
After many of years of experience she realised that sometimes massage is just not enough, sometimes the body holds traumas that although feel muscular to the client, they are stored at a deeper level in the body and a different approach is needed.
She first experienced Craniosacral therapy in 2008 and fell in love with it. After 10 years of first discovering it, she decided to train has a Craniosacral therapist herself. She believes in the healing power of the non-judgmental and safe space provided during the session.
She qualified in Aug. 2020 from CTET Craniosacral Therapy Educational Trust and since then developed her skills with further post-graduates course:
